Description

Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 6674 can be found between Hercules and Lyra. It is a very difficult target due to it's very low surface brightness, 15.9 mag/square arcmin.

Furthermore, it lies behind a very densely populated area of the sky in our galaxy and over a thousand foreground stars can be seen here that are part of our own Milky Way galaxy. NGC 6674 appears far behind these foreground stars but it does somehow appear to be part of them. There is a distinct barred structure with a nearly complete inner ring which can be clearly seen in my image. At the center of this galaxy lies one or more supper massive black holes which doubtless influences the galactic structure and rotation. Magnitude: 13.0, size: 4.0'x2.2', galaxy class: SB(r)b. 45 x 120 second integrations.
