Description

SH2-171, also known as Sharpless 171, is an emission nebula located in the constellation of Cepheus. It is part of a larger star-forming complex that includes NGC 7822 and the young star cluster Berkeley 59. This nebula is approximately 3,000 light-years away from Earth and is characterized by its intricate structures, often referred to as “elephant trunks” or pillars. These formations are created by the stellar winds from hot stars within the nebula, which shape the surrounding gas and dust.
