Description

This is a work in progress. The image is quite noisy and I have not used any noise reduction. More data is the way to go.

NGC 613 is a barred spiral galaxy located some 67 million light years away in Sculptor. It was discovered in 1798 by William Herschel, then rediscovered and catalogued in 1828 by the Australian astronomer James Dunlop. The first photograph to show the spiral structure was taken in 1912. Studies of this galaxy in the radio wavelengths indicate that the nucleus is extremely active and there is evidence for an accelerated and collimated jet of gas being expelled from the center of the galaxy.
