Description

Mosaic of the main Pickering's/Fleming's Triangle area and the Nebulosity below it.

Update 9/24/2022
I added more narrowband subs to the upper half of the mosaic. I also processed it a bit differently so that it blends better with the lower half.

Sky & Telescope: This is part of the Cygnus Loop in the Cygnus Constellation, also known as the Veil Nebula, a shock wave produced by a supernova that was first visible on earth about 5000 years ago. The triangle was discovered by Williamina Fleming in 1904 on a photographic plate at the Harvard College Observatory, so it is rightly known as Fleming’s Triangle. It is commonly known as Pickering’s Triangle, after the head of the observatory.

The data was collected over a period from 8-31-2022  to 9-18-2022.
The upper half is Pickering's/Fleming's Triangle. It contains the triangle.
The lower half is designated as NGC 6979 and NGC 6974.
I did not use identical processing for the upper and lower images. I decided to create the mosaic after the two images were processed so there are visible differences in the upper and lower halves.
The two images were stitched together using Microsoft's 'ICE'.
