Description

van den Bergh lists it as spanning 30', but here vdB 109 is revealed to be a brown and blue brushstroke of nebulosity that extends almost 1.5°. It sits in a relatively empty area of Ophiuchus (nearly the whole constellation is filled with dust to some degree). The illuminating star is 24 Scorpii (magnitude 6).
