Description

NGC 2371-72 is an unusual planetary nebula located approximately 4,300 light-years from Earth in the constellation Gemini. It’s referred to as a bipolar planetary due to its two bright lobes of gas surrounding the progenitor star in the center. The appearance results from material ejected during the late stages of the central star's life. This dying star is a hot, faint white dwarf whose radiation causes the nebula’s shell to glow. My photo hints at the expanding cloud’s complex structure of twisted filaments and knots.
