Description

This object is a large elliptical galaxy located in the Virgo Cluster of galaxies, in the constellation of Coma Berenices. It lies approximately 60 million light years from Earth and contains about 400 billion stars. Its small galaxy neighbor above it in this image is the barred spiral galaxy NGC 4394. It is believed that these 2 galaxies are gravitationally interacting with each other. The negative of this image does seem to indicate a slight tidal stream of stars connecting the 2 galaxies.
