Description

The Thor’s Helmet Nebula (NGC 2359) is a spectacular gas cloud that extends for about 30 light-years in the constellation Canis Major. At the center of the nebula lies a very hot and massive star, known as WR7, which belongs to the class of Wolf-Rayet stars. These stars are in a very advanced evolutionary phase and could explode into supernovae in the near future. The stellar wind of WR7 has carved out a bubble in the middle of the surrounding molecular cloud, creating the characteristic helmet shape with wings. The nebula shines due to the emission of oxygen atoms, which give it a greenish-blue color. The Thor’s Helmet Nebula is located about 15,000 light-years away from us and can be observed with a medium-power telescope on winter nights.

I used a Bundle Dataset from Telescope Live since I can't reach that level of detail with my current setup. I also followed @lukomatico's (Luke Newbould) method from his YouTube Channel.
