Description

Andromeda and the Triangulum Galaxies, Captured from Cerro de la Muerte, Costa Rica

Andromeda (M31) is my love at first sight. The nearest spiral galaxy, around 2.537 million light years away, having around a trillion stars, is said to be colliding with our own Milky Way soon (only 4 billion years to go, brace yourselves !!!). Andromeda has 2 satellite galaxies, M110 and M32 and the name comes from the constellation Andromeda, in which it lies.

The image shows two spiral galaxies, the Andromeda and the Triangulum or M33 (name comes from the constellation Triangulum). At the centre, is the Beta Andromedae, a red giant, Mirach and it's a key to locate the 3 galaxies, M31, M33 and NGC404, also known as Mirach's ghost
