Cosmic Particle On Dark Frame Exposure

Description

Background: I was imaging dark frames (no light exposure) at various temperatures to improve my deep space astrophotography image processing.

Attached are two exposures from the my cooled camera. The camera is a modified Cannon 20D (IR filter removed) in a Peltier cooling box which dropped the temperature about 14C below ambient. The images were taken in my house (living room) with the camera and telescope in its storage box. The camera was is a normal upright position. The first exposure (Dark12.5C_180_001_Line) is a 180 second exposure at 12.5C. The second exposure (Dark12.5C_180_002_CleanSample) is a reference sample showing the anomaly doesn’t repeat (there are another 18 samples of the 180 second exposure. The anomaly is in the lower left quadrant. The anomaly starts at pixel 239, 1522 and ends at 213,1622. I took a about 90 other dark frame exposures during the day and this is the only one that shows this effect. The frame with the anomaly occurred about midway through my imaging session at 9/22/2013 1:29PM EST. The image below is a 500% magnification of the anomaly.
