Description

Also known as the 'Intergalactic Wanderer', Caldwell 25 is one of the most distant globular clusters associated with the Milky Way, lying at a distance of 275,000 light years from earth and 300,000 light years from the galactic centre. As such, it is significantly more distant than either the Large or Small Magellanic Clouds.

At a declination of 38 d 50 m north, C25 is not well placed for viewing from my location in South Australia. With the cluster culminating just 16 degrees above the horizon, several nights were required to produce enough shots for a reasonable image. Ordinarily I wouldn't have bothered, but C25 completes my collection of the Caldwell globular clusters on Astrobin.

Time to head back to more southerly latitudes for the next project!
