Description

Trapped in a bubble of glowing red hydrogen, the Statue of Liberty nebula stretches out towards the ugly face of a goblin, who seems to adore it in amazement. New stars are forming in the complex nebulae with their dark knots of interstellar dust, whose powerful winds form these beautiful loops. The Statue of Liberty Nebula is around 9000 light years away from us. Twice as far away is the grimace-like nebula NGC3603 on the left of the image. This distant emission nebula is the most massive visible hydrogen region in the Milky Way, consisting of atomic ionized hydrogen (HII).
The picture was taken with equipment rented locally by DeepSkySafaris at the Rooisand Desert Farm, Namibia .
