Description

Messier 1 Crab nebula. It is the remains of a stellar explosion that was first observed by Chinese in 1054 AD. It lies about 6200 light years away.

This object is quite low in the southern sky here. Winter weather has kept me from capturing it until I got a 6-hour window of clear skies and small moon last night. I captured what I could, but now the weather looks to be closing in again for another week at least.

Narrowband nebula data combined S-H-O, no tone mapping, just some saturation adjustment and minimal sharpening, noise reduction. Combined with RGB stars.
