Description

NGC 6946, the Fireworks Galaxy, is a face-on starburst galaxy in Cygnus, and so one of the last available late-night galaxy targets for a scope like mine at this time of year.  It is an intermediate spiral, so in between a barred and unbarred spiral.  The weather turned on me after two short and lightly cloudy nights on this target, so I collected only  20 usable luminance frames and about the same number of RGB, so less than 3.5 hours total.  Despite those constraints, the data allowed me to produce a reasonably attractive image with good color.

Processed entirely in PixInsight.

As I continue my early journey into mono imaging, I continue to be impressed by the rich blues and reds that LRGB imaging produces, even compared to the wonderful ASI 2600MC PRO.
