Description

This is a cropped image I processed using original narrowband data from Telescope Live. In my processing workflow, I used the Hubble Palette for the narrowband color mapping.

The region of the Carina Nebula shown here has received much attention since an infrared image was taken by the James Webb Telescope and published in July 2022.

I cropped my image of the Carina Nebula to highlight NGC 3324, an emission nebula that appears in the upper left corner in the uncropped image. A portion of NGC 3324 is nicknamed the Cosmic Cliffs and is a region of very active star birth. In this image the rim of the nebula glows with amber light from hot, newborn stars. The radiation and strong stellar winds from these new stars have carved out the large cavity clearly seen in this image.
