Sh2-132 (also called Lion Nebula) is an extended emission nebula visible in the constellation Cepheus.

It is located at the southern edge of the constellation, not far from the border with the constellation Lacerta, along the plane of the Milky Way. Sh2-132 is located at a distance of around 11000 light years from earth. The stars responsible for the ionisation of its gases and thus the colouring are very hot and massive, in particular two Wolf-Rayet stars.

The Widefield image shows some details: three open star clusters NGC 7245, NGC 7226 and NGC 7235, the latter in the neighbourhood of a tiny planetary nebula (green arrow) PK103 - 00.1, which is rarely photographed due to its size. The star RW Cephei (further green arrow) is one of the most luminous stars in our galaxy. With around 40 solar masses and a size of 900 to 1760 solar radii, it belongs to the rare class of red hypergiants, which are characterised by their strong luminosity and extreme stellar winds.

This image was processed in the HOO palette, with Ha assigned to the red channel and OIII to both the green and blue channels. The data originates from the year 2023 and was processed several times to optimise the presentation.
