Description

IC405 Flaming Star Nebula is an emission and reflection nebula in Auriga. It is around 1,500 light years away. The central illuminating star, AE Aurigae, is thought to have been ejected some 2.7 million years ago following a violent event, possibly a supernova explosion, near the Trapezium in the Orion Nebula. AE Aurigae is currently moving fast through the cloud of gas that forms the Flaming Star nebula but is not actually related to it.
