Description

IC 4604 is the large reflection nebula surrounding the triple star Rho Ophiuchi in the constellation Ophiuchus. Rho Ophiuchi (center of field) is embedded in a large complex of nebular gas and dust that, actually, makes the star appear 1.45 magnitudes dimmer than it actually is.
The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex lies at a distance of 427 light-years from Earth and covers an area of 4.5 by 6.5 degrees in the sky, so this is just a tiny portion of the entire cloud complex.
