Description

UGC 3816 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Lynx, some 160 Mly distant. An interesting feature in this galaxy is that it is connected to nearby galaxy VII Zw 148 through an intergalactic bridge.
This bridge indicates that the galaxies have a violent history.
Both galaxies are rather small; ugc 3816 has a diameter of only 60 000 ly, while VII Zw 048 is only some 12 000 ly in diameter.
The "large" spiral galaxy in this image is ugc 3828, at about the same distance as ugc 3816.
