Description

M20 (NGC6514), AKA The Trifid Nebula, is located 5,200 light years distant in an H II region in the constellation of Sagittarius, and is in a star-forming region of the Milky Way's Scutum–Centaurus Arm. It was discovered by Charles Messier on June 5, 1764, and is a combination of an open cluster of stars, a red emission nebula, a blue reflection nebula, and a dark nebula.
