Description

Mars Meets the Pleiades on March 6, 2020 - Milwaukee Astronomical Society grounds, Bortle 6/7.

This was taken just a few days after Mars met the Pleiades in the sky within about 2.6 degrees. Unfortunately the original had some blur in the star field, but I ran out of battery power in the cold to correct with another set. As is the nature of live events - sometimes you catch them perfectly, sometimes not perfectly, but it's still a unique event to share.

I'd guess the distance by March 6 had begun to widen, but this is still within proximity of the event peak. On March 3, this was the closest Mars-Pleiades conjunction since January 20, 1991, when Mars passed 1.7 degrees south of the Pleiades. Mars and the Pleiades won’t be as close until February 4, 2038, when Mars will swing 2.0 degrees south of the Pleiades that year - so I'm looking forward to a retake then!
