Description

The Orion Nebula was observed by Charles Messier on March 4, 1769. However, since it is visible to the naked eye it was discovered far earlier than that. It's only 1,500 light-years from Earth and located in the constellation Orion.

As a bonus, you also get the Running Man Nebula (NGC 1977/Sh2-279) off to the left.
