Description

James Dunlop, working from Parramatta, west of Sydney NSW, discovered this open star cluster in 1826.
It was later more fully described by the famous John Herschel. It is located in the Norma Star Cloud of
our Milky Way Galaxy, hence the heavily populated background of this image. It lies 4,620 ly away, is
estimated to be just 102 Myo, and contains 893 solar masses.


Telescope: William Optics FLT110 refractor + 2.0x Barlow, f=1540mm
Camera:    ZWO ASI294MC Pro, 24 x 300 sec, no filter
                   Bortle 3-4 sky, moonless
Field of View: approx. 0º 30’ x 0º 20’
