Description

Here's my 2nd try at processing JWST data, collected by the James Webb Space Telescope's NIRcam (near-IR camera).

For this image, three sets of filter data are offered for download: F162M (short wavelength), F356W (long wavelength), and F444W (long wavelength). Colors were assigned using the color chart on this JWST User Documentation website: https://jwst-docs.stsci.edu/jwst-near-infrared-camera/nircam-instrumentation/nircam-filters

DynamicCrop, DynamicAlignment, and GHS stretch were performed in Pixinsight for the 3 filter sets. In Photoshop, I combined RGB channels into one file, then made final adjustments of color, sharpness, and noise reduction.

Cassiopeia A, a supernova remnant, is about 11,000 light-years from Earth. The colorful filaments and knots of gas in the inner shell are comprised of sulfur, oxygen, argon, and neon. NASA's official image with a more detailed description can be found here: https://webbtelescope.org/contents/media/images/2023/149/01HGGZ4TPD8XFNPCBTZ2QYM0ZM.
