Description

NGC 3576 was discovered on March 16, 1834 by John Herschel. It is located about 9,000 light-years away with a diameter of about 100 light-years in the star-forming region RCW 57.

In the center we can see an interesting shape that resembles the famous Statue of Liberty. At least 33 massive stars in the final stages of their formation have been discovered here. Their intense radiation tears apart the clouds of dust from which they formed, creating this dramatic sight.
