Description

This object is a faint orange-tinted reflection nebula located 3260 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +39 degrees.  It spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a width of 1 light year.

vdB 130 is located in a region of strong emission between the Crescent Nebula and the Gamma Cygni Nebula.

The nebula surrounds dim 14 magnitude star UCAC4 647-086816 in the exact center of the image.  This may not be the worst vdB object but it is close.  This nebula barely stands out from the nebulosity of other stars around it.

The star that Dr. van der Bergh identified in his paper is incorrect - he listed the brighter star that is to the right of vdB 130.   The Astrobin annotation is similarly incorrect.

Sidney van den Bergh published his vdB catalog of reflection nebulae in 1966. It was later expanded by one for a total of 159. The collection encompassed all reflection nebulosity visible on the Palomar Sky Survey north of -33 degrees latitude. My complete Astrobin vdB Collection is here.
