Description

Sh2-188 Shrimp Nebula

Sh2-188 is a very dim planetary nebula in Cassiopeia about 8,000 light years away. It is often called the Shrimp, Simeis 22, or Dolphin nebula. What makes this planetary nebula particular interesting is that it is moving rapidly through the interstellar medium, making bright bow shock waves in front with a faint tail. The faint wips of gas on the dark side seem mostly to be visible in Sii. These dark wisps are close to the ambient level, making it hard to image and process. Overtime the nebula will evaporate into space.
