No matter how often we follow a certain process, we aren't necessarily free from failures, as already described
here.
Yesterday, after 8 cloudy weeks, out of a sudden a window of opportunity came up for the evening. I quickly grabbed my equipment and arranged everything in the garden to be ready to acquire some data. With the current moon, RGB was without a doubt a no-go so I decided to go with the L-extreme for NB imaging and chose IC410.
I recently switched the coma corrector to the GPU and since then I am facing autofocus issues, which I wanted to iron out this evening as well. Even so, I wanted, a solution, I haven't found one and I was still in manual focus mode.
I started the imaging session and after a while, I realized that the stars aren't really round...really...waiting for 8 weeks and then being so stupid to forget to properly collimate after the telescope was attached to the mount ... really... REALLY!!!???!!!
Ok, I still gathered some data overnight, likely not really in focus and not properly collimated. How bad can a Monday be?
In the morning I took some flats and quickly processed the data and it was...yeah bad.
But then I thought, why shouldn't I at least try the challenge and give it a shot how far I can get it with PI, PS, and all the goodies in the kitchen to still make something out of the ingredients I gathered as finally everything I learn here will help me with better data.
Here is the result, showing some artifacts of the AI usage and being far from a great picture but anyhow I think it was worthwhile giving it a try.
