Description

I’ve been sitting on a mountain of data for months and haven’t had time to process anything. Ugh! Finally got to sit down and process something. This is Sharpless 115 and 116 processed in PI and PS - an approximate 2/3 crop. The SII signal was strong enough that I was able to differentially process much of it from the Ha and show the spacial distribution of these well. The seeing was not great but I’m happy with how this came out. Version B is a revision to dampen the stars a bit.

Sharpless 115 is a large molecular cloud in the direction of Cygnus approximately 7500 light years distant. The primary part of this target in the upper right of the image is a nebula sculpted by the stellar winds of several newborn star clusters including Berkley 90, an open cluster near the lower right of the region. The extended Ha region below is also part of SH2-115. The little gem in the lower left is SH2-116, once thought to be a planetary nebula owing to its shape and structure, however evidence indicates that this is an Ha nebula, a smaller star forming region with typical distributions of central ionized oxygen and peripheral Ha.
