Description

And the double star in the middle created it all. It is known as the dragon’s egg. The name dragon’s egg is derived from its proximity to the nebula NGC 6188, the “fighting dragons of the ara”.  According to the latest findings it were actually once three stars, two of which merged a few thousand years ago. The two remaining stars are hot, blue stars, about 40 times more massive than the sun. They are rare because so far only three such stars are known in our Milky Way and two in the Andromeda galaxy. The dragon’s egg not only created the complex small red nebula in its immediate vicinity, but also the surrounding blue halo.
