Description

This HII hydrogen emission nebula is located about 3000 light years away in the constellation of Cepheus at a declination of +63 degrees. The brightest portion of the nebula seen here is about 9 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of about 8 light years.

The image includes a small star cluster (Pismis-Moreno 1) and a hint of blue reflection nebulae. The cloud pillars of the emission nebula are pointed towards the cluster, sculpted by the stellar winds and radiation of the bright stars. A number of Herbig-Haro objects are embedded in the central section of the nebula but are not easily seen in this image.
