Description

This very faint object, similar to a ghost, lies in the constellation of Sagittarius. Striking are the streaks of weakly reflecting clouds, the galactic cirrus. Originally described as an HII region, it is a nebula that is illuminated by our Milky Way and thus shows the characteristics of a reflection nebula with its whitish and brownish colors. It is probably called Ghost of Barnard because it lies close to the galaxy of the same name. It appears to us to be twice the size of our moon.
