Description: The hole ... are those dimensions sufficient?

The solar alignment challenge! Thanks to Tim weho gave me the suggestion to find the N-S orientation via the sun at meridian! Worked perfectly, I was maybe a degree off, if at all, still, that gave me confidence that I will be able to set up the pier almost exactly to the north, important!
I also dug more in dirt today, the base is now approximately 3x3 square feet, while the top is 2x2 square feet, I feel better about this as well. Now the hard job, pouring the concrete, that will be a LOT! Friday is the day, I want Home Depot to be open in case I will need more bags!

Description: Took the advice and added 4 foot long Rebars vertically, 2 feet in the ground. That should help!

Description: A bit more than half way done with the concrete. My wife was and always is an enormous helper. Here she is getting the concrete into all corners.

Description: The final step before adding the screws. A total of 21 sixty pound bags fit in the hole, 1260 pounds, ok, that is quite a lot. Had to go toe Home Depot 3 times since we thought less is enough. Here already the template for setting the screws. I am bit worried now that the screws are not tight enough, but maybe just because the concrete was not solid yet (which was of course good 😊). Well, patience is now asked.

Description: And to be sure that the screws are added at the right position I put the pier on top of it, sitting on a 2x4. I am confident that they are placed correctly, so that is one worry less!

Description: The screw/nuts setup to be able to level the mount perfectly (which actually worked wonderfully).

Description: Putting the mount on the pier and started leveling the mount. It was actually easier than I thought.

Description: And the final image of this series. I had to put my lovely wife Tami into the image since she was helping significantly. Thank you all for giving me suggestions and advices, this was just great!

Description: This is what I like about having a pier. I did the north alignment with the T-Point model 3 times, the 4th I received this message ... NICE 😊!

Description: Constellation Cards. This is how crazy it is getting in the household, my wife is now playing cards with me that show the constellations. If you zoom in on the description it tells you which suite is best to watch at what season. Pretty cool.

The “AstroBin Image of the Day and Top Picks”, or IOTD/TP, is a long-running system to promote beautiful, interesting, peculiar, or otherwise amazing astrophotographs, with a focus on technical excellence. Learn more.
Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration. | ... |
---|---|
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew. | |
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected. | |
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status. | |
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members. |
