Description

The weather was far from cooperative in spring, with rain dominating nearly all of March. However, on April 2nd, the sky unexpectedly cleared. Seizing the moment, I quickly assembled an imaging setup using an iOptron SkyTracker instead of an equatorial mount. The window of opportunity was incredibly narrow. As the sky turned dark, I had just about 20 minutes before the comet would disappear behind the mountain ridge. Luckily, I managed to capture enough data to produce this image. The framing was not perfect in the rush, so I had to crop the image heavily.

Date and time: 2 April 2024, 21:00-21:15 CET.
Technical details: Samyang 135 mm f/2, ZWO ASI2600MC (gain 100, bin 1, 0 °C), 2" IDAS LPS-P3, ASIAIR, iOptron SkyTracker.

Sky: 16x30 s tracked exposures.
Foreground: 8x30 s untracked exposures.

Processing details: Calibration, alignment and stacking in PixInsight, final adjustment and combination with foreground in Photoshop 2024. Crop, resize 50%.
