Id be curious to hear people's thoughts on putting a valuation on second hand telescopes and accessories. I have a telescope and accessories that are in excellent condition and just over 2 years old. I'm considering selling and upgrading but I'm not entirely sure how best to value all of of the kit. I'm well aware it depends on the condition/usage and supply/demand in the market and it's also always good practice to do a bit of research and see what prices people are selling second hand equipment for. With a little bit of research on Google I've seen a figure of 70-80% of the retail price as a ballpark range for rescale but I've also seen a figure of between 60-100%. Any thoughts on this or just general advice on selling telescopes and astrogear would be much appreciated. Clear skies 🔭✨📸 |

Have a look on Astrobuysell UK or Canada, not sure if there is an Australian site but it would give you some idea of what things actually sell for. https://www.astrobuysell.com/uk/ |

I have sold a lot of used gear in the past few years upgrading and streamlining my setup and here is what I have found out: - first, see what prices others are selling similar equipment to yours - main stream/popular gear will sell for around 75-80% of retail - offering free shipping helps - try to keep all of your gear protected and looking new in case you ever want to sell it - having the original boxes, instructions and accessories help to resell an item - setup a photo shoot when taking pics of used items with multiple pics and choose the best ones for your ad - more details on an item the better in your ad - be patient, but if my item doesn't sell within a couple of weeks I usually drop the price a bit to get more interest CS and Good Luck! good points @Starman609 having some clean pics with decent light does help. answering prospective buyer's thoroughly goes a long way as well. Much of this equipment is very expensive to be purchasing online from relative strangers, so the more info you can provide usually helps set expectations well and make everyone feel more comfortable. i've also noticed there's definitely and ebb and flow to the market for used gear. If you can sell your used gear when the new units are sold out, it can't hurt you. |
