I am getting this scope Monday and what I found about adding the EAF is not clear. Some say it’s not a good fit and others say they had no issues but there isn’t many clear photos. Would anyone having this combination be kind enough to share their experience ? |

I tried to do this but had all sorts of trouble. First I had to modify a coupler to get it to fit in the housing on the scope. After that it took all kinds of tinkering to balance the whole thing (EAF, ASIAir, guidescope+cam) on a SW SA Gti. After all that trouble I didn't get it to work properly, the focuser just somehow got too stiff and the EAF wasn't able to move it. It was over -23 C outside so maybe that had something to do with it. I didn't feel like wasting more time on it when I had the clear skies, so I just took it off and focused with a bahtinov mask. After that initial focusing the scope held focus like a champ the whole week I imaged (didn't take the rig inside during daytime) so at least in my case the EAF isn't really needed. I did all rest of the sessions during that winter without EAF on this rig as well. Once the scope is acclimated, I focus once and that's it. The focuser mechanics on this scope aren't that great so I don't think it's worth the hassle, at least for me. Even if I could get it to function, the focuser may not be precise enough to give repeatable results with the EAF. |

I had the 62ED for a while and also had to remove the bottom screw in order to install a Pegasus FocusCube2 (which otherwise installed pretty easily, except that I needed to find a longer screw at the hardware store to fasten the bottom plate, IIRC). The focuser seemed to function okay without it.

I wanted to make things easy so I bought a bracket on Etsy made for the 62ed and 82ed. It comes with everything you need. It’s no longer available on Etsy but you can find it online. Here’s one link https://www.apm-telescopes.net/en/adapter-fur-zwo-eaf-motorfokus-an-skywatcher-evolux-okularauszuge It turned out to be a nightmare because it looks like I was sold a scope that had been messed with and returned. The tiny hex screw that holds the know was stripped and the hex key wouldn’t grab so I had to drill it. Then once the eaf was installed the focuser sagged a lot. See this topic https://www.astrobin.com/forum/c/equipment-forums/sky-watcher-evolux-62ed/eaf-on-evolux-62ed/ i was able to fix it by tightening some of the screws but it’s not straight and my stars aren’t round. I haven't had a chance to work on it since but other adjustment screws look like they are stopped too. |

Ye okay, but what size diameter was the coupler which fits inside focusser coarse hole?

Okay i measured everything today. The Evolux Coarse hole was 18mm. ![]() The Coarse knob itself was 16.92mm. So i need a coupler with almost that same size. 17mm would do also. But the Gemini (ZWO Clone EAF AlieExpress) couplers were all 18mm. ![]() So i shaved with stone grinder almost 1mm away, until it fitted ![]() ![]() On this coupler the innder bore holes were on 1 side 6mm and on the other side 5mm. The 5mm fitted the Gemini EAF perfectly, but the other 6mm side didnt fit the Evolux Coarse shaft. Because that was also exactly 6mm. So the 6mm needed drilled a verry little bit. After that everything fitted on my side. I tried to find a coupler with a diameter 17mm, but i cant find them. I hope this work, and i dont have tilt or other weird stuff. It turns perfectly in Nina. I did the same thing. My measurements of the hole in the housing was 17.86 mm and I got the other end of the coupler down to 17.56 mm and then it fit. But yeah, it is approximately 18 mm and if you can get the coupler down closer to 17 mm that'll be fine. The closest one I found was 19 mm so it took a while. I attached the coupler to cordless drill and ground it against coarse sand paper. Whatever works! But that is as far as I got last winter. I had some problems with it which I didn't have time to troubleshoot, so I took the EAF off and focused manually. I might try it again before the autumn season begins though if I can get it working. |

I'm happy to report that after I swapped those small M4 coupler locking screws for shorter ones, everything fits nicely into the housing and there has been zero problems with the EAF on multiple nights of imaging. I don't yet know how it will perform in the winter in -20C temperatures, but at least now it works fine.

Hi, just seen this thread. I have the same combination. I didn't have a need to shave down the coupler for the EAF. There is enough play/movement in the focuser spindle to push it through from the course focuser knob side. This was just enough to connect the coupler to without further work. All works fine my only reservation is there is considerable 'slop' in the focus draw tube but this nothing to do with the EAF.

i didnt use an ZWO EAF. I used an Gemini EAF from AlieExpress, which have a bigger coupler. So yes i needed to shave them down. The slob i removed with the 6 grub screws. Its rock solid now, and works perfectly in NINA.
