Description

SH 2-132, also known as the Lion Nebiula, is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, roughly 10,000 light-years away from Earth.

It is part of the Sharpless catalog, which lists H II regions, areas of ionized hydrogen gas, and active star formation. The nebula contains several young, massive stars whose intense ultraviolet radiation energizes the surrounding gas, causing it to glow. SH 2-132 has complex structures, including dark dust lanes, bright knots of gas, and star clusters, making it an intriguing target to explore and plotograph.
