Description

Part of the HII region known as the North America Nebula (NGC7000), this frame would correspond to the Mexico/Central America part. It is an extensive volume of space filled with HII clouds ionized by an extremely hot star pumping UV light into the surrounding gas, causing the Hα emission. The bright clouds are intersected by dense dark clouds of dust, which also hide the background stars.

This is very much a work in progress. The original upload is just 1 hour 50 minutes of data, taken under my bright, short northern summer skies. The resulting image is quite noisy, and as additional data become available I plan to upload revisions with, hopefully,  better signal to noise ratio.
