Description

After trying hard with Saturn on that rare night of good seeing here in Vienna city, I was able to capture quite a number of nice sequences of Jupiter (which was twice as high in the sky) and the beginning transition of Io. The moon's shadow happened to appear close to the GRS, which is a beautiful coincidence.

As the shadow moved fast, I am still figuring out how to stack and derotate all these promising images - for now, this is the best 50% of a single 1760-frame sequence. I then re-stacked the same sequence on Io (not Jupiter's surface) and surprisingly was able to see a plausible small disk. Not sure if the surface detail is real or an artifact, but at least the lighting makes some sense.

Edit: Derotation did not really produce further detail -- and this indeed appears to be the best stack of that night...
