Description

Hydrogen gas is the main building block of the Milky Way and the basic material which fuels our Sun and the stars in our night sky.  Most hydrogen is not visible to the human eye, but this starless scene – comprising 50+ hours of H-alpha data and downsampled to be displayable across the Astrobin file size limit of 275 megapixels – reveals a bubbling cauldron of nebulosity strewn across the sky.  This is a crop of a 9-panel, 550 megapixel mosaic that pushed the limits of my computer during processing.  Simultaneously beautiful and terrifying, I never tire of looking at this most abundant element in the universe.
