Description

The red emission nebula Sh2-302 (Gum 6, LBN 1046, RCW 7) is located around 6000 light years away in the southern constellation of Puppis and never rises higher than 25° at my site. The nebula is crossed by a significant dark dust lane. To the left of the upper end of the dust lane lies the blue Reflection Nebula vdB 97, barely imaged from my light polluted site in Vienna. Below the main object is the small open cluster NGC 2409.
