Description

This image was taken two weeks ago during our astro-retreat, I really didn't expect these satisfying details. I hope you enjoy it. (info for nerds at the end of the post)

Molecular clouds are formed by the accumulation of gas and dust in the interstellar medium where due to their high density, conditions become more favorable for atoms to move closer and form molecules.

You may also notice a blue patch around the center, that's the famous Iris Nebula. It is a reflection type of nebula, where the light of a bright star scatters through gas and dust. This nebula appears in blue for the same reason our sky is during sunlight, because blue scatters the most in the visible spectrum.
