Description

A short luminance exposure showing the supergiant eliptical, M87 and its relativistic jet. This imaging season has been plagued by unstable weather and mediocre seeing, so it was essentially a test of how much jet detail can be extracted under those conditions. To get a more or less decent resolution, I resorted to using a series of 10 s unguided exposures at high camera gain (200). After filtering, only 128 "best" exposures with average FWHM in the 2.5"~3.0" range were used for final stacking. The standard Lucy-Richardson deconvolution procedure was used to bring out jet detail (its about 20" long and only a few arcseconds wide).
