Description

I'm new to the Southern Hemisphere night sky. It's fascinating to explore what has been (so far) unknown to me.

Very early on, I was exploring the LMC and came across this really odd spherical shape. It took me quite some time to find out what it was, and I designated it 'Unknown' in my first observation. Even after finding out it was Henize 70 (aka N70), the fascination didn't die out. There was very little information and most pictures were quite blurry. ...and so were my pictures! It just seemed to be a very elusive object to catch.

So, I decided I'm going to make it my mission to get a great image of Henize 70.

I only had a few chances in 2024, and N70 is now quite low on the horizon, so this image will have to conclude my efforts in 2024, but I will continue in 2025!

Dylan O'Donnell has a great video about Henize 70 (When Supernovae Just Don't Stop 😲 💥 (youtube.com)) that filled in a few gaps for me. I can highly recommend you watch that video ;-)
