Description

Syrax?  Caraxes?  Vhagar?  Have the battles of MAX's House of the Dragon moved much further overhead?

This is Sh2-114, the Flying Dragon in Cygnus.  It's a very faint HII region and very little is known about it.  It looks like a supernova remnant but no source has been found.  Perhaps it is merely wisps of hydrogen blown and formed by powerful stellar winds.  I could find no report of its distance.

I originally planned an HaRGB image, but then I decided to see what SiI and OiII subs might add.  Perhaps it's my Bortle 5 backyard, perhaps it's the relatively modest aperture of my telescope, but nearly 6 hours of OiII data produced no signal that I could see.  That meant that my SHO image was really just a "SH", and various processes did little to alter its deep green cast.  HOO was similarly useless.  I then turned my attention to RGB.  The signal was again faint, but at least it was discernable.  I added Ha using ImageBlend to produce my first version, and I experimented with NBRGB Combination and found an interesting golden result when I put Ha in the Red and SiI in the Green.  That is revision B. The SiI signal helps distinguish the dragon from the background HII regions.   I completed all processing in PixInsight.  In both Revs A and B I removed the NB stars and replaced them with RGB stars.

I invite your comments and suggestions for improvement.
