Description

From Wikipedia:

GC 2242 is a planetary nebula in the constellation [url=mw-redirect=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auriga_(constellation)]Auriga[/url]. It was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on November 24, 1886,=reference=cite-bracket[1=cite-bracket] and was thought to be a galaxy until a study published in 1987 showed it to be a planetary nebula. (See citation below)

The nebula is located about 6,500 light-years away, and about 1,600 light-years above the galactic plane.

The central star of the planetary nebula is an O-type star with a [url=mw-redirect=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectral_type]spectral type[/url] of O(H).

Surprising for a 20 Arc" object there is an extensive scientific paper (1987 one) on it that concludes it is definitely an PN:
