Description

The southernmost Caldwell object, C109 is a small but reasonably bright planetary nebula discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1835. I took advantage of a slightly hazy but very still night with a bright moon to target this object.

Given its small size (40 x 35") and the small aperture of my scope (4 inches) I had to deploy a few tricks I haven't tried before. First, a x2 drizzle was used to increase the image scale, and then Registax was used to apply wavelet-based image sharpening that I'd normally use for planetary imaging. I was pretty happy with the results, with the hydrogen emission showing some nice structures and shells.
