Description

Presenting my OSC Hubble Palette image of the NGC 281, or the Pacman Nebula. Located in the Cassiopeia constellation, this active star-forming region is approximately 9,200 light-years away from Earth. The Pacman Nebula is a complex structure of ionized gas and dust, with its signature shape resulting from the illumination of the molecular clouds by the cluster of massive young stars near the "mouth" of the nebula. The processing technique applied to this image highlights the emission of hydrogen-alpha, sulfur, and oxygen gases in the nebula, revealing the intricate details of its structure and dynamics.
