Description

My first post! This was a "quick and dirty" narrowband session, and I plan on adding more data down the road.

The RedCat 71 f/4.9 APO is a fun scope that works great for capturing large targets. I tend to use it with a smaller APS-C one shot color camera but in this case I was experimenting with a full-frame setup (from my longer FL scopes), aiming for a larger chunk of the sky, fitting in NGC 7000, IC 5070, and then some! The under-sampling was countered by drizzling the data during processing. I did not calibrate with any dark frames.

I dove head first into astrophotography about a year ago. While I continue my journey with PixInsight, I've been re-learning Photoshop, a tool I've used on and off for a couple decades in other non-astro projects. I've been mostly following the techniques in Charles Bracken's "The Deep-Sky Imaging Primer." For this image, I applied the following:

PixInsight:
1. Weighted Batch Preprocessing script
2. Drizzle Integration (I dither every other frame in NINA)
3. Dynamic Crop to remove artifacts near image borders
4. Automatic Background Extractor
5. Linear Fit (against Ha image)
6. Morphological Transformation on the OIII image to reduce star size. This channel displayed much higher FWHM.
7. STF / Histogram Transformation on all 3 images
8. Color synthesis using SHO-AIP script
9. Exported as 16-bit TIFF

Photoshop:
10. Removed noise using the Topaz DeNoise AI plugin
11. Tweaked contrast and levels
12. Exported image as a smaller sized JPEG
