Description

I really wanted to see just how deep I could go in the backyard.  Chose a random patch of galaxies that I would have full view of almost the entire night and started.  Didn't have any idea what I would end up seeing, interesting or not.  I figured Luminance would be where I would get the best detail and depth and got just over 1400 60" exposures (23.5hrs).  Got just enough color data I would be happy with (64x3min each for R, G, and B) and decided I better grab some Ha.  You never know I you may see some Ha tendrils linking galaxies.

What I found in Ha was much more intriguing!  A huge, VERY dim band running across the field of view.  Boy is it dim too.  After 32x15min exposures and continuum subtracting I saw just enough of it I decided to double the exposure time and got 64x15min in Ha.  For the final image it was tough controlling the slight variation in gradients during continuum subtraction to really push a lot to the Red channel, but below I have the Continuum Subtracted minimally processed image too.  No image of this region I have seen has that in it!  No idea what structure it belongs to.

There are soooo many galaxies when you star so long in a single patch of the sky too.  May weren't cataloged in any easy to access surveys but I did find a galaxy far far away, more than a point source in the image, sitting a staggering 1.8 Billion Light years away.  There are Quasars in the image much farther away (out to 20Billion light years!!).

I also rotated and cropped the image for the final image, but the annotated version below is the full uncropped version
